Subject: no thought for the youngsters
Called sat. mor. to see if area 6 tourney was on and couldnt believe what i heard. Gov. Rendell declared state of emergency not to travel unless you were med. personel or emergency responder. The tournament apparently went on as scheduled. All that was needed was to delay for roads to be cleared. I wasnt putting my family and child in that kind of danger. Im from mercer and if you didnt have a 4x4 you werent going anywhere til 11:00. Safety should have been the number one issue period. Hope eveyone got there safe. I hope this opens some eyes to future consideration on everyones safety. People remember this was an 8 and under tourny not the olympic qualifiers

I live about 15 miles from the Area 6 tournament site.
We did not get more than 6 inches or so of snow overnight.
I was out on the roads at 8:AM. The roads were bad but I have seen much worse.
By 10:00 AM the snow had stopped.
The big snow was east and south of us.

Thats fine im glad you live close to the tourn. site but what you missed is that there half the people from area 6 that happened to be south of franklin and we got 16 in of snow 25 min s. of the tourn. site. I guess it was just bad luck for all of us towards the south of area 6. by 10:00 snow had stopped here also, a little to late for a 9 am start but many schools would have had to leave at 5 am to meet the 9 am start and risk their lives getting there. not that i wouldnt have but not with 6in. of snow on the roads, a two or three hr delay in the start time would have sovled all of this. I think you have a lot of dissappionted kids that didnt get to wrestle and compete this weekend. Maybe someday youll have a son or daughter that wants to compete in an event in their area but cant compete because directors or officals couldnt look outside the box and properly apply correct judgement to resolve the issues.

There were in fact very few people that did not show up...you can't set up an event like this and just cancel it like a little league baseball game. Better yet cody why not suggest what would be a good day to have it and what day it won't snow? The area 6 director is from Mercer also and so are the mercer coaches and wrestlers that made it to the site.

did i say cancel it. read what i said or are you not paying attention either kam. there is more to it than all of this but it seems none of you give a crap out safety. im glad you made it. i just wasnt going to put my family out there on a crap shoot that i was going to make it safely or not. a little consideration for the people in the southern tier of area 6. enough said youve missed the point

yup read the whole thing...and it sounds like a big a whine fest...you made reference to directors and officials thinking outside the box one day and applying judgment as if someone did not. And spoke for everyone else about what time you thought we had to leave to put our lives on the line...i drove through mercer at 7:20 a.m. and it took me exactly 55 more minutes to get to the site...so your a little off.

We all live in NWPA and know how the weather is here. It is not easy to reschedule a tournament when it is getting so close to Areas and States. More people would be angry finding out it is postponed 4 hours than taking the time to leave early from home and drive safely. The right thing was done by keeping the tournament on and postponing it a lil while to get the wrestlers there safely. Was a good tourney and everything went well!!!!!

The thing is cody you made your choice just like everybody else did who went or stayed home. I agree with you and think you made the right choice. No youth sporting event is worth putting your families wellbeing at risk. But that was your choice, nobody stopped you from going did they? Just be happy your family is safe and stop complaining.

fivepointer - i agree completely i was so amazed when i went outside this a.m. at what fell last evening but i was even more amazed that the roads were actually not that bad at all. Went 40/45 instead of 65 and did just fine
