I'm thinking of going to take some notes on whose cutting to much weight.
Reply By areaxfan --(71.161.240.24)-- If you want to be there for 12 hours and wrestle 3 matches that would be the place to be!
Reply By Jesyca07 --(204.11.86.212)-- smethport is still taking entries... jcmac@pennswoods.net
Reply By jtb --(71.116.58.167)-- Smethport IS where you wait 12 hours and wrestle 3 matches. Hopefully you have changed your approach from the past couple of years.
Reply By Badcat --(65.112.250.245)-- Sticking to the NE Nationals subject; I heard the numbers are low this year...We aren't going as originally planned as it's a bit much to drop $75 for admit, $47 for each wrestler, and the food is pricey as well. Why is this so dang expensive?
We'll be at the Elco tournament instead.
Reply By Jesyca07 --(12.45.19.25)-- last year was a little rough.. we turned it around at districts... and we are running the same format as districts.. and the last couple of years havent ran past 4
4 years ago... there was an attempt at the madison format and i guess it didnt go that great.. that was before i was involved we have a new set of ppl running the show since then. thanks for your input..
Reply By bearhug --(64.178.115.211)-- Are they posting the entries today?
Reply By rickybobby --(69.142.252.90)-- Went to NE Nationals 2 years ago. Spent a lot of money - 2 kids fees (think it was $50 each then), hotel, coaches fee (I think, but may be mistaken), overpriced concessions.
Went in expecting NLO or War at the Shore - instead I got the same tournament (bracket size AND competition) my kids go to every other weekend at 1/3 the price. I guess we paid the extra money for the privilege of having one kid from GA or NY in the bracket.
Won't make that mistake again.
Reply By onthemat --(71.162.47.85)-- entries are listed -- go to the homepage
Reply By padad --(68.238.244.53)-- same experience, long drive, hotel, $$$$$$$$
one kid in his bracket
Reply By afw --(68.84.56.165)-- I was there tonight; I do agree the numbers are low; however; both of my boys are going to get 5 or 6 matches with wrestlers they have never seen before. No complaints.
If you only get one match, then your in one of them brackets that your wrestler is either in a very low or very high weight for their wrestling age; cant help that...
I hear Northern is running a JH match this weekend too. I think some of the low numbers people talking about are a result of that tourn and the LCMC tourn.
No complaints; new competition for my guys; thats all I care about...
Reply By afw --(68.84.56.165)-- ----
good luck to my friends from exeter.
we'll try and get some pics of your boys for you.

Reply By Badcat --(65.112.250.245)-- LCMC went to the Elco tournament this past weekend, and that place was rocking! What a great tournament, the competition was pretty good, and the awards were outstanding. My son had 16 kids in his bracket...NE Nationals had 4...you do the math when comparing $30 total for Elco and $150 for NE Nationals. My son placed 4th and won the fastest pin award.
Reply By newtothis --(74.47.120.98)-- I agree afw - yeah - its a lot of money - but we got great matches with some quality wrestlers that we don't see at the local tournaments. That's exactly what we wanted.
Reply By Horseshoe21 --(72.95.48.148)-- Officials at Northeast Nationals this year were terrible. It is a sad day when an official comes over after a match and apologizes saying he was asked to do this national tournament, he has never officiated a match before this and he is clueless. He was a very nice guy and we felt very bad for him. He took a huge amount of grief. He literally told us that he missed several of our son's points as he got too involved in the "awesome dump" that our son did and he could not believe a 10 year old could do that. This poor ref just got hammered all day. He made another bad call with locking hands, the kids dad called him on it, he said he saw it, He was unsure of the rules as the kid locked his hands while on his knees, He did not award a point, he called over the head official who told him yes this was locking hands, should have awarded a point to the other kid but that he could not reverse his initial decision! The match should have been tied up with that and went to OT, instead it was over and this was a place match! Table help at table 2 was a joke!! They were too busy switching people in and out of the table and not paying attention to what they were doing. They did not start and stop the clock, no towel thrown in half the time, score was wrong and one kid that forfeited in first round somehow his name advanced to the semis in a 20 man bracket!! Tournament officials had to come help run the table and straighten them out several times. Absolutely ridiculous! When you invest this much in a tournament you could at least pay some good table help. I do have to say that there were a lot of families there that did their job and ran excellent tables and to you, our thanks go out. We will seriously be rethinking this one for next year.
One last thing, a 13 year old is still a student and to charge $25.00 admission is obsurd.
Reply By newtothis --(74.47.120.98)-- Yes - that ref was obviously a beginner and had no place being there and the table help was lacking. But in the one situation you describe the coach's behavior was ridiculous. Also check the rule book Rule 7-3-3 - locked hands is a technical violation UNLESS the opponent has all the weight supported entireley by the feet. In the situation, the offensive wrestler was on his knees but the defensive wrestler was on his feet so the original call was correct.
Reply By bh60lbs --(207.255.100.137)-- we have been lucky enough that in all the matches my son has wrestled we have never had a ref blow a call that cost us a match but here was a different story.wrestling in the finals at 14 75 lbs in ot 2nd pd. we r on top time winding down buzzer goes off (they didnt throw a towel on this mat)ref gives kid a point ive never see an escape point given unless there is seperation .in this case the kids never came up off of the mat.needless 2 say we lost 1 0.the other match going 2 wrestle for 3rd and 4th we get a td on edge of mat kid has 1 leg out they r called out of bounds because ref was out of position .we lose 1 0.thinking i overreacted we watched the film and both calls were not even close.we will go back because we did have 21 kids at 75 from 8 dif. states.refs were horrible and very arrogant.10 mats ran very well done at 4.a 47 dollar entry fee and 25 dollars 2 get in ,the awards were pathetic.a laminated plaque. this was a national tourney show a little more appreciation 4 the people who spend and support.
Reply By mpk980207 --(69.19.14.28)-- I agree with bh60lbs. Competition was great, the refs were terrible. I am sure this phrase gets over-used ... but it was the worst I have ever seen. Luckily my son was not the victim of any horrendous calls but I saw them all day long on his mat. I also saw a td called in OT #4 on mat 3 that was not even close. How do you explain that to a 10-year old kid? For the money they charge for this event, you would think they could afford qualified officials. There was a young kid that looked like he never officiated before.
Reply By liftanddrive --(24.3.147.97)-- Well forget about your refs for a moment and see how these incidents compare to your horror story.
Seneca Valley Novice...
1. kid gets a takedown immediately in the 1st period gets the kid on his back for 55 seconds in the first; towel comes in and no back points! no lie
2. 1-0 8 seconds to go. Kid was stalling but on the mat and not engaged with the kid (no contact) kid winning is in bounds by 5 feet. ref blows the whistle and calls "fleeing the mat" and gives 1 point to kid trailing to tie the score.
3. Kid on his knees in a tight waste and ankle crawls out of bounds on all fours; ref blows whistle and gives 2 back points. no lie coaches from both teams just laughed and shook there heads.
Honestly we could go on and on but those were the worst of the day but there were hundreds more awful calls that day.
Been around wrestling for 30 years and never saw anything quite like it. Out of 6 refs, 1 was outstanding, (bald guy) I felt bad for him because he saw what a disgrace he was surrounded by.
Reply By armbar --(74.109.238.236)-- Refs were absolutly the poorest I've seen in a long time. The 1 ref everyone is refering to cost several more matches than was talked about. Northeast nationals should do a better job of getting table workers and refs
Reply By ucanwrs --(69.142.173.126)-- sounds like tough match bh60lbs - which is good. On another note, every tournament there are questionable calls throughout the day. happens in every sport. Best thing is to not have a match too close that a call determines the outcome.
