Subject: Area X Weight allowance
What is the thinking behind the 1 lb. weight allowance if kids weigh in Sunday as opposed to Sat. evening? Kids are always heavier end of day and lighter in a.m. so what was the reasoning here? Also and more important...will this rule be followed through from districts to regions to states in March?

how does that work when other areas dont give allowance(make exceptions to the rules)

Not sure if Area X is up to something or not but this is the rule at States. Yes it does seem backwards but is done for two reasons. One is to prevent the overload of kids weighing in at night. The 1 pound allowance in the morning temps many of them to just go then and reduces the masses the night before. The other is to make every effort to keep the brackets full. No one, who is there for the right reasons anyhow, wants a free ride to a podium spot. Keep the brackets full and may the best man win. I can't wait to hear all the whining about "he got a 1 pound allowance and my kid didn't". I would rather be the kid that weighed one pound less the night before and then got to eat properly that night and in the morning than the kids that couldn't eat the night before and that morning to make weight with the 1 pound. And then suck down some food and a gallon of Gatorade and then hit the mat.

So this is a PJW rule? I am not doubting it, just can't find it anywhere on the website. I would hate to use the 1 lb. weight allowance at areas and then not be able to make weight at states.

At states they always give you a 1-pound weight allowance on Friday morning instead of Thursday night.

Area XI does the weigh in the morning of the Area XI Championship with no allowance. We did it last year and it worked well.

No weight issues at states

PJW should mirror the PIAA when ever possible. Especially with weighing in. This will help prepare the you8ngsters for the real deal in high school.

AREA X allows the pound on the day of competition to mirror what they do at the PJW championships. There is some discretion in each AREA and how they run there events.

I agree Area1, just offering some advice. I like the way weigh ins are done for the Championship and hope is stays that way.

Not that it matters to me, but after reading this I asked my area chairman why we did not get the 1#. He handed me a copy of the PJW Rules & Regulations Handbook.

Section IV. Tournament Rules
A. Eligibility
2. Weights
d. Weight Allowance:
1. Flat weights for all qualifiers leading to the State Championships.
2. A one pound weight allowance for the Friday weigh-in at the State Championships, but there will be NO weight allowance for the Thursday weigh-in.

Seems pretty clear to me. "Flat weights for all qualifiers leading to the State Championships"

That's the way it should be or you might as well just change the weight class. If your going to give a 1 Lb allowance all the way threw then you might as well say that is the real weight class for the tournament!! Mawa's not that I want to use them as a pillar of excellence but they give a pound only at the finals and that's because there is almost 2 months from start to finish in some of the regions.

Thanks for the clarification pantherpride. So what's up AREA X ? Are you going to follow the rules or make up your own??????? I see no mention of discretion for the 1 lb allowance.
